Navinjector Pro is a navigation utility that you can use to inject navigation into your Sonar file.

Chesapeake Times Vol 22 | July 2025

The utility is called Navinjecto Pro or NIP for short.

The NavInjectorPro. Command button in the Tools Menu opens the NavInjectorPro tool and is used to inject navigation from an external ASCII data file into a standard sonar data files types such as CSF, JSF, SDF, SEG-Y,  or XTF. The utility will only create a file when both sonar data and navigation data are available for the time of the ping. If gaps occur in the navigation data, the same gaps will occur in the sonar data

Many SonarWiz users reach out to the support team asking for help adding layback to their sonar files’s position. This can be achieved in several ways however some users have the layback recorded in an external file and wish to apply it to their sonar files position.

This is a simple process and I am going to use an XTF Side Scan Sonar File and a CSV that has Layback distances recorded with time.  NIP uses time to align position and other pramerters with the new navigation data being injected into the file.

First I need to create a template in NIP that will parse out the CSV file.

Clicking on the Manage Button opens the Template Section of NIP. Here I can choose one of the provided templates or make a new one by clicking the Add Button.

Then Choose a template name and define the delimiters and any offsets , Add the data stream you want to parse from the file, test the file for compatibility and save the template..

Now you can choose the sonar file you want to apply the corrections to. First browse to the folder where the RAW data is stored and select it. Then browse to the folder where you want the corrected file to be saved. These can be the same folder.

Now select the template and hit start.

In the next window that pops up you can choose which position you want the corrections added either Ship or Fish, and if you want any interpolations done due to missing sonar times and time gaps.

If NIP works then you will get a new file with a U or P in the file name. (P for ship and U for Fish).

Now you can import your corrected file and see if it works and the position has been modified.,

Hopefully this tip will help you adjust your files and apply cable out data to your sonar files from another source.
